Position Summary

The Production Coordinator is responsible for supporting the execution and accuracy of the production schedule by coordinating shop floor activities, tracking work in process, maintaining accurate ERP and schedule information, and providing timely communication between Production, Sales, Quality, Purchasing, Shipping, and Production Control.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Walk the production floor throughout the day to verify job status, priorities, and workflow.
  • Maintain and update the master production schedule based on current production activity.
  • Provide accurate and timely status updates on jobs currently in production.
  • Monitor work-in-process (WIP) and identify jobs that have stalled or may be at risk of becoming late.
  • Coordinate the movement of materials, travelers, and jobs between departments.
  • Communicate production priorities and schedule changes with supervisors and leads.
  • Maintain accurate ERP transactions, operation completions, job status updates, and inventory movements.
  • Track jobs requiring rework, repair, inspection, or additional processing.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing regarding material shortages, Quality regarding inspection status, and Shipping regarding completed orders.
  • Prepare production updates, hot-job lists, constraints, and other information needed for daily production meetings.
  • Follow up on production-related action items and escalate unresolved issues or missed commitments.
  • Notify the appropriate parties of confirmed schedule changes that may impact customer commitments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of production delays, constraints, and significant schedule changes.

Performance may be measured based on:

  • Production schedule accuracy
  • On-time delivery support
  • Aging WIP reduction
  • Timeliness and accuracy of production status updates
  • Timeliness of Sales communication regarding schedule changes
  • ERP and traveler accuracy
  • Inventory transaction accuracy
  • Completion and accuracy of daily production reporting
  • Timely identification and escalation of production constraints
  • Follow-up and closure of assigned action items

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate information.
  • Ability to identify issues, communicate concerns, and follow through until resolution or appropriate escalation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with shop floor employees, supervisors, managers, and cross-functional departments.
  • Ability to read and understand production schedules, work orders, travelers, job routings, and basic manufacturing documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Manufacturing, production control, scheduling, or related experience preferred.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Regularly works in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Required to walk the production floor multiple times throughout the workday to verify production status and workflow.
  • Must be able to safely navigate active manufacturing areas and comply with all required PPE and safety requirements.
  • Regular use of a computer, ERP/MRP system, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for periods of time while performing production floor responsibilities.
